The people behind the work

A founder’s perspective.
A builder’s involvement.

A founder and builder who stays close to the business as well as the technology.

Nicolai Thomson

Nicolai’s experience connects product development, engineering and commercial leadership. He founded Jenesys AI, working on accounting agents while also leading pricing, onboarding, sales and support. At Spark New Zealand, his work joined enterprise propositions with product development, marketing, financial modelling and channel strategy.

Earlier work with Inland Revenue New Zealand put technical change in the context of a complex institution and the people expected to use it. Building TaxiClub and Jukes brought a different perspective: starting with a specific customer need, then developing both a product and the business around it.

That range shapes BTR’s work on agentic services. A customer journey can change what a website needs to explain; a workflow can change which information an agent needs and what it should be allowed to do. Nicolai brings the commercial purpose and those technical decisions together, with specialists assembled around the work.

His current building interests include agent coordination, reviewable knowledge and systems that help people act on what they know. Alongside BTR, With Nicolai focuses on AI transformation for founders and leadership teams.

Outside the work, he is a dad, a cargo-bike rider and a swimmer, with a weakness for offshore powerboats and good coffee. The curiosity carries across: he likes understanding how things work, and what might make the next attempt better.

Built around the work

The right people for what needs to happen.

BTR brings together engineering, agentic and interface specialists around the work. An agent-aware website needs a different mix of skills from a company knowledge system or a workflow that can change business records. Nicolai keeps the commercial purpose, the access boundaries and the delivery connected.

That means clear responsibilities, room for independent review and direct conversations when a decision matters. The aim is a team that understands why you are building, as well as what you have asked it to build.
